ESL Training: Opportunity for Ministry

Over the past several years, Austin has become a truly global city. Each year, UT draws thousands of new international students to study in a variety of fields, and the entrepreneurial culture of our city continues to attract people from all over the world. This influx of internationals to our doorstep has profound implications for our ministry as a church. It means that instead of flying thousands of miles and spending thousands of dollars to reach “the ends of the earth,” the nations we’re called to reach have come to us!

How should we as a church respond to this movement of the mission field to our front door step? With joyful obedience! One way we can connect with these new neighbors is through offering free ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. Churches around the country have seen great success through using ESL to reach their communities, and we want to take advantage of this great opportunity to serve our neighbors. It’s a great way to provide something valuable to our community, build relationships, as well as bear witness to Christ through some of the material used during the classes.

But in order to host a ministry like this we need your help! These classes will be staffed and taught by church volunteers, and the more volunteers we have, the more we will be able to offer in our classes. You do not have to speak a foreign language in order to be an ESL teacher or volunteer! All you need is the ability to speak English and a love for Jesus! Redeemer is planning to host a training course for everyone interested in being a part of this ministry. The dates of the training seminar are:

Friday, October 26, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 27, 9:00 AM – 5:00 p.m.

Please consider being a part of this important ministry and service to our neighbors. If you would like to sign up for the training, or if you have any questions about this ministry, please email Pastor Bryce (bwaller@redeemerpres.org). And please pray that the Lord would use our efforts as we go to all the nations right here in Austin!
