Mark 7: 14-23

The Christian in a Time of Crisis

After the initial panic purchases of toilet paper, we’ve mostly been treated to good news about the public’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Heartwarming stories of selfless acts of charity fill our newsfeeds every day. Sadly, the worldwide quarantine has also revealed harsher realities: calls to domestic violence hotlines have spiked, people report that they are drinking more, and psychologists warn that the rate of suicide is likely to increase as depression and anxiety take their toll on our mental health. Crisis events like the pandemic often reveal underlying problems that most of us successfully hide during more normal periods of life. As we return to worship this week, I want to look at Mark 7 and ask, what is God revealing to us about ourselves in this time of crisis? What is uncovered will not be pretty, but it is only by taking an honest look at our sin that we can be assured of our Savior’s great work of redemption for us. Join us this Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., or via livestream as we explore what it means to be a Christian in a time of crisis.
