John 10: 1-21

Gospel of John - Good News

I Am The Good Shepherd - It is, of course, one of the most famous word pictures we have of Jesus. We can all imagine it in our mind’s eye: Jesus, the good shepherd, surrounded by the sheep of his flock in the middle of a green pasture. Even among modern Americans who never get close to real, living sheep, this description of Jesus brings great comfort. Join us this Sunday as we go beyond the childhood picture of Jesus as the good shepherd to the implications it has for our lives, which are often filled with hardship and doubt about God’s care for us. In John 10, we’ll be reintroduced to the truly good shepherd who lays his life down for his sheep.

The New Year is a great time to revisit the story of Jesus, because our hope for the future is only as secure as our grounding in the person and work of Christ for us. Even though this Gospel isn’t about us, it is for us—Jesus is the Word who is life, and that life is the light of all men. No matter what future you are staring down this New Year, I want you to have the unshakable confidence that the Word which spoke life into being holds your life in his hands and the darkness will not overcome it.
