Please plan to join us for a special evening service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, as we celebrate Epiphany Day!
The word “epiphany” means “manifestation” or “showing forth” and it refers to the revealing of Christ to the world, starting with the magi and extending to all nations. Historically, Epiphany has been celebrated longer than Christmas has. The focus is not on Jesus’ birth, but rather on him revealing himself to the world as the incarnate Son of God. During Epiphany, we emphasize several early events in the life of Jesus: the visit of the magi (representatives of the Gentile world), the song and prophecy of Simeon, Christ’s baptism by John, and his first miracle of turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana. The season culminates with the Transfiguration of Christ, which we will mark on February 19.
