For the Adults: meeting in Room E206
Beginning on January 19, Pastor Marcus Serven will pick up our study with the Apostle Paul’s defense before King Agrippa (Acts 26) and work our way forward through the remainder of Paul’s many adventures and trials. In particular, we will focus on several key themes that emerge from this portion of Scripture: the importance of prayer, mortification of sin, persecution, suffering, evangelism, discipleship, and Christian missions. There will be practical lessons on the Christian life for each person to apply. Interspersed with our study, there will be occasional reports from our current missionaries when they come to visit our church. In short, this will be a beneficial time to go deeper into God’s Word and to apply the lessons from Paul’s colorful and controversial life to our own circumstances.
If you are interested in a deeper study of Acts, Pastor Eric recommends the following commentaries as helpful study aids:
- John Stott’s The Spirit, the Church, and the World: The Message of Acts
- F. F. Bruce’s The Book of Acts
- Joseph Fitzmyer’s Acts of the Apostles
- Dennis Johnson’s The Message of Acts
