We’re starting a new year, and a new season in the church calendar… Epiphany! This season begins on Monday, January 6, and ends with with our celebration of Jesus Christ’s Transfiguration on February 23. A “new start” like this is an opportunity to try something new or rekindle a forgotten family practice. This month, I’m suggesting that families learn some hymns that we’ll be singing during worship in the coming weeks. Our Epiphany season hymns may not be as familiar as others, but you’ll find some gems among them. For example, did you know that the rhythm for the tune “When Christ’s Appearing Was Made Known” was composed to mimic the rolling gait of camels? These hymns all help tell the ways Jesus was manifested to the world as the incarnate Son of God, such as: the song and prophecy of Simeon, the visit of the Magi, his baptism by John the Baptist, his first miracle of turning the water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana.

Here are some tools to help you: http//bit.ly/RPCepiphany takes you to our new Spotify playlist with all the Epiphany hymns recorded by the Redeemer Choir. And here is a booklet of these hymns that you can use for family worship. We know that repetition is key to learning… use this playlist in the car, at bedtime, or around the dinner table.
