Thanks to the generous gifts of several Redeemer members, a beautiful new instrument has been commissioned just for us! It will be used for the first time on Sunday morning, March 10, to accompany our youth choir. This fine instrument was built and completed in 2018-2019 by Taylor and Boody Organ Builders of Staunton, Va. They have extensive experience building portative/positive/continuo organs since 1987. The organ case is made from black cherry and patterned after an American colonial Hadley chest by Thomas Dennis, found in the Yale University Art Gallery. The keys are made of ebony and bone.
Concert Next Week!
On Sunday night, March 17, at 6 p.m., we will officially inaugurate this instrument in a splendid concert on our new instrument. Welsh organist Guy Whatley will be our guest for this concert. Guy is no stranger to Redeemer; he has played twice in our Holbrook Organ Series and played harpsichord in our Festival of Music this past December. He is currently organist for Camelback Bible Church in Paradise Valley, Ariz., where George and Pamela Dupere served prior to coming to Redeemer. He will be joined by our very own Jenifer Thyssen, singing the brilliant Gloria by Handel. Also featured will be violinists Emily Dupere and Stephanie Raby and cellist Mark Dupere.
Please plan now to attend this event. Childcare will be provided. Wine and cheese will be served at the interval to celebrate the arrival of the new organ!
