1 Peter 4:12-19

Letters to Exiles: 1 & 2 Peter

Modern Americans have become highly adept at avoiding suffering. We can find medicines to relieve us of our pain, entertainment to relieve us of our boredom, and a solution to nearly any problem that confronts us. But optimizing our ability to avoid suffering has created a new kind of suffering: a dependence on government, family dysfunction, skyrocketing prescription drug use, and higher suicide rates (especially for men) than we’ve ever seen. Having been surprised by suffering, we’re ill-equipped to meet it the way Peter describes in his letter. The kind of suffering Peter refers to is related first and foremost to our being Christians. But the answer to suffering—of any kind—is found in the words of wisdom that he shares with his ancient congregation. Join us this Sunday as we turn to 1 Peter 4:12-19 and learn about the answer to our suffering.

From Series: "Letters to Exiles: 1 & 2 Peter"

This spring, we begin a new sermon series through the letters of the Apostle Peter. 1st and 2nd Peter were written to Christians who were navigating their new identity as people of God while still living and working in the world.
