Apostate. Just reading the word probably evokes a mix of emotions: worry for friends and family who have fallen away from the faith, personal anxiety when you think about your own seasons of doubt and apathy, confusion over how someone who once professed to believe can walk away from Christ and his church. This Sunday, we’re tackling one of the hardest passages in Scripture: the author of Hebrews warns the church that it is impossible to restore apostates to repentance. Why does he say this? About whom does he say this? What does it mean for you and me as we labor to believe and follow King Jesus through difficult trials and temptations. Join us this Sunday as we take a hard and sober look at apostasy.
This summer, our sermon series will take us through the book of Hebrews. Although Hebrews is one of the most important New Testament books because of its teaching on the divinity of Jesus, the relationship between the old and new covenants, and it’s insight on early Christian worship, among other things, the book is shrouded in mystery: who wrote it, to whom was it written, what kind of book is it anyway?
