John 15:18--16:4a
The disciples’ final few hours with Jesus are quite a roller coaster of emotions: the highs of the Passover Feast and Jesus’ words of love are paired first with confusing acts of service, then predictions of betrayal, and now a divine warning: the disciples themselves will face hatred and persecution; some will even die. What was true for the disciples has been true of the church down through history in nearly every time and place. Seasons of relative peace are punctured by hatred and persecution. The normal Christian life until Jesus returns is to bear up under this trial and tribulation. Join us this Sunday as we consider Jesus’ warning to the disciples in John 15:18-16:4 and the strength you and I can know in the face of hatred and persecution.
