Genesis 47

Genesis: An Uncertain Future

Having been assured by God that his family would be made into a great nation in Egypt, Jacob and his sons settle in Goshen. Their life in Egypt is a stark contrast to the Egyptians who become poorer and poorer as Joseph continues to lead the nation during the height of the famine. The distinction between the two people (Jacob’s family and the populace of Egypt) is a helpful analogy to our own life as exiles and aliens. What does it mean for us to live here in Austin while we are also citizens of the Kingdom of God? What promises can we hold on to and what challenges must we endure?
