Hebrews 12:1-16

Hebrews: Jesus Is Better

Every four years, the world gathers to watch the best athletes from every country compete in the Olympics. Each of us has our favorite contests to watch, but some of the most moving are the long distance races that stretch their participants physically and emotionally to the breaking point. This week, we turn to Hebrews 12 and another well-known passage from this important epistle. The author encourages his congregation to “run with endurance the race that is set before us” (v1). As we consider these first verses of Hebrews 12 our focus will be on the nature of the race, the runners in the race, and the goal of the race. Join us this Sunday as we leap from the blocks at the sound of the starting gun and race toward home.

From Series: "Hebrews: Jesus Is Better"

This summer, our sermon series will take us through the book of Hebrews. Although Hebrews is one of the most important New Testament books because of its teaching on the divinity of Jesus, the relationship between the old and new covenants, and it’s insight on early Christian worship, among other things, the book is shrouded in mystery: who wrote it, to whom was it written, what kind of book is it anyway?
