1 Samuel 2:12-36

The Gospel According to Samuel

The sons of Eli are servants of God, priests set apart by ordination to offer sacrifices to God at the Tabernacle. They minister in God’s presence. They are the visible manifestation of the religious life of Israel. They are also wicked men. They steal, they threaten, they commit sexual immorality…and everyone knows it. God tells Eli that he will judge his house, and history records that the line of the priesthood of Israel passed to a different family. This week, we wrestle with the challenge of sinning servants of God. What happens when the Lord’s priest doesn’t even know the Lord?

From Series: "The Gospel According to Samuel"

This week, we begin a new sermon series in the Old Testament book of First Samuel. Eventually, we will hear the stories of King David and Solomon, the building of the Temple, and the glory of Israel under God’s blessing in the land of promise. But we begin during the time of the Judges when “everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
