1 Samuel 4:1b-11, 19-22

The Gospel According to Samuel

Is God on our side? Can we claim his presence and power to support our personal, familial, and national aims? One of the perennial struggles of God’s people is to haul God out to suit our needs rather than submitting ourselves to him and his plan. This week, we return to the story of 1 Samuel and we see what happens when God’s people attempt to use God. The results are both tragic and redemptive, for in the darkest moments of God’s own exile into a foreign land he is at work ensuring that a king will be established in Israel from whose house will come the Lord Jesus Christ.

From Series: "The Gospel According to Samuel"

This week, we begin a new sermon series in the Old Testament book of First Samuel. Eventually, we will hear the stories of King David and Solomon, the building of the Temple, and the glory of Israel under God’s blessing in the land of promise. But we begin during the time of the Judges when “everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
