John 16:16-24

Gospel of John: The Final Week

We all know theoretically that death is a reality we all must face, both for ourselves as well as those closest to us. But somehow despite that knowledge, whenever the reality of death touches our lives it always seems unfair and untimely. It has certainly felt that way this week as we mourn the loss of a beloved brother in Christ. Jesus knows experiencing the untimely death of a loved one will have a profound impact on our faith and the way we relate to God. This week we listen in on his conversation with his disciples as he prepares them for the emotional impact his own death will have on them. But we will also see how he prepares them to move from sorrow to joy in the wake of his resurrection, a lesson we need to hear as well as we grapple with the great and last enemy of death in our own lives.
