Acts 4:32-37

Easter Season

We live in an age that often defines success in terms of wealth and the accumulation of stuff. The quest for more and more is a never-ending one. We instinctively recognize that life is about more than money and possessions, but how can we break out of the cycle of consumption that too often draws us in? Our passage from the book of Acts this week provides us with a vignette from the early life of the Christian church that paints a vision of how the resurrection of Jesus impacted their relationship with their wealth and possessions. The picture we see is a challenging and counter-cultural one. What would it take for us to live such generous lives today, especially living in a city that Elon Musk says will be the “biggest boomtown that America has seen in 50 years?” Where can we find the strength to live against that tide?
