Ruth 3

Book of Ruth

One of the most depressing aspects of modern life is the lack of rest. We blur the lines between home and work. Our devices are always on. Our side hustles keep us grinding well into the weekend. We seldom find time to stop and rest. As we continue on in our study of Ruth, we see Naomi—previously paralyzed by bitterness—spurred into action by the prospect of finding rest for Ruth. Naomi doesn’t just want to relieve her daughter in law of the difficult work of gleaning, she wants to ensure that Ruth has a future and a hope. Join us this week, to see how Ruth’s rest will finally come through for her—even though she must face danger and toils and snares to get there.

From Series: "Book of Ruth"

Each fall, we turn to an Old Testament text for our sermon series. Having concluded Genesis last year, we are fast-forwarding a bit in redemptive history to the book of Ruth this fall. Ruth is set after Moses led the people of Israel out of slavery and after Joshua led them into the land of promise. But instead of blessing, life has gone drastically wrong for Naomi and her family. Join us as we begin a new study in Ruth with a focus on the “frowning providence of God” that hides his smiling face—in Naomi’s life and our own.
