Mark 2:18-22

Seeing Jesus: Gospel of Mark

When people think of Christianity, do they think of the dour Pharisees or the joyful Jesus? Do they think of duty and obligation or do they think of celebration? Sometimes we can trick ourselves into thinking that God especially appreciates and wants devotion that hurts, but in Mark 2 Jesus pushes back against that idea. Join us this week as we hear Jesus tell some of his earliest parables, which give us insight into the kind of celebratory people he calls us to be.

From Series: "Seeing Jesus: Gospel of Mark"

The Gospel of Mark is known for its quick pace. Jesus, as Mark tells it, does everything “immediately.” The picture of Jesus we get from Mark isn’t of a languid guru, but of a man on a mission. As we return to our spring sermon series in the Gospel of Mark, we’ll give special attention to the picture of Jesus Mark is conveying to his readers. For in Jesus, God’s king and God’s kingdom has come…and nothing can ever be the same again.
