Freedom - How free are you? We tend to think that we have absolute freedom, but recent research reveals that there is an entire industry dedicated to shaping your thoughts, values, buying habits, and decisions. To these cultural forces can be added family dynamics that help make us into the people we are today. And we certainly can’t forget the Bible’s teaching on the imputed guilt and corruption of original sin. Turns out we’re not very free after all! In John 8, Jesus gives us good news: he has come to set us free! Why does that good news lead to such a violent reaction by the Jewish religious leaders? Join us this Sunday as we explore John 8 and the good news that threatens the lies that enslave us.
The New Year is a great time to revisit the story of Jesus, because our hope for the future is only as secure as our grounding in the person and work of Christ for us. Even though this Gospel isn’t about us, it is for us—Jesus is the Word who is life, and that life is the light of all men. No matter what future you are staring down this New Year, I want you to have the unshakable confidence that the Word which spoke life into being holds your life in his hands and the darkness will not overcome it.
