2 Samuel 7:1-17
Advent is a time of preparation to receive the gift of God in Christ Jesus. It also is a time for us to prepare to exchange gifts as his people. We fill our time looking for the right gifts for our beloved friends and family members. But what happens when the gifts we give are rejected by those whom we love? This Sunday we will examine David’s gift of a Temple to God, which the Lord rejected but used to bless David with promises for his family and for all generations through the eternal establishment of his throne. Ultimately, we also receive the blessing of David’s line as Christ, heir to David’s throne, has incorporated us into his kingdom and house, securing the promises of God forever!
