CloseGenesis 26 gives us our main impression of Isaac—and he doesn’t come off looking so good. He tries to flee the Promised Land because of a famine; he lies to a pagan king about Rebekah, his wife; and he is expelled from his own land. Isaac’s many shortcomings on display in this chapter remind us of his father’s sins. Despite his sin, however, he is a man living with the promise of God ringing in his ears. He is the beneficiary of the covenant God made with Abraham his father. He is blessed both materially and spiritually. How do we reconcile these two portraits of Isaac? Join us this Sunday as we consider all the ways Isaac is like Abraham…and you and me.
