Jesus & Joseph in Genesis – Women’s 4-Week Study: Dec. 12 to Jan. 9

Yes, 2020 has been a humdinger, but you can finish 2020 well and start 2021 strong with this four-week sprint through Genesis 37-50 focusing on the life of Joseph in Genesis and how it points us to Jesus as our Messiah!

When?  We’ll meet on four Saturdays via Zoom from 9:30-11:30 a.m.: Dec. 12, Dec. 19, Jan. 2 and Jan 9, but not Dec. 26

WHY??
– Aren’t we all already too busy at Christmas time? True, schedules vary, but those on semester break and others with a year-end slow-down in their work may have more time to devote to a quick four-week study this time of year. If you’ve never been able to join one of our Saturday studies before, this is your opportunity!
– But I have Zoom fatigue! You’re not alone, but Zoom allows members from all over Central Texas to meet together without prohibitive drive-time. Plus, we’ve even had some former RPC members and friends join us from other states.
– Check out our new format: We’ve moved to a more discussion-based format (with fewer, if any, video/audio excerpts) and have had some very and fruitful exchanges.

How much is the book?  The cost for the workbook is $11.

Is there homework?  Yes, the workbook contains five daily lessons each week.

Who?  Women and teenage girls from ALL churches are welcome, so please feel free to invite friends.

What will we do?  Using the three-step inductive method of textual observation, interpretation and application, we will work our way through Genesis 24-36 verse by verse.  This inductive method of study has the potential to transform the way you read Scripture and greatly deepen your understanding of what you read!  We will supplement our workbooks with materials from Ligonier Ministries and other distinctively Reformed publications, as well as watching or listening to rich and engaging teaching via from a variety of notable Reformed pastors and theologians.

QUESTIONS?  Want to sign up?  Please contact Mary Anna Turner (maryannaturner@gmail.com) so that she can add you to our email list and get a workbook to you.

Please join us in pursuing the noble Bereans’ “three E’s” – eagerly, everyday examining the Scriptures (Acts 17:11)!

Prayer Groups

Sundays at Sundown: New Group for Advent and Christmas Season

Advent is a beautiful season of watchful, prayerful expectation!

  • Have you been waiting on the Lord for a long time to respond to a particular concern in your life?
  • Maybe you been praying for unsaved loved ones or a prodigal child for years or even decades?
  • Or perhaps you been praying for deliverance from chronic illness, pain or ongoing relational conflict with no end in sight?

If so, you know how it can be easy to grow weary in our repeated petitions…and how it can feel like we can say the “same old things about the same old things” every time we bring these long-held burdens before the Lord in prayer.

Each Sunday from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. from November 29 to January 3, all RPC women are invited to join our new “Sundays at Sundown” Zoom prayer group in which we will set out to breathe fresh life into our earnest, but often-repeated petitions by:

  • Using the language of Scripture itself as the basis for our prayers
  • Bearing one another’s burdens by interceding on each other’s behalf
  • Devoting 30 minutes to focused, uninterrupted time praying God’s Word
  • Finding mutual encouragement in God’s promises and our shared experiences

No weekly commitment is required All women are welcome to come once, twice or all six times.  We will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. each week and conclude promptly at 5:30 p.m. to respect everyone’s time.  Anyone who would like to stay for 10 minutes of optional visiting/conversation afterwards is welcome to do so.

Please contact Mary Anna Turner if you’re not already receiving the Zoom link.

Psalm Groups

Both our morning and evening women’s Psalm-based prayer groups are continuing via Zoom. No weekly commitment is required—you are welcome to attend either group whenever it suits your schedule. Here are the basics:

When?
Every Tuesday morning from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. AND
Every Wednesday evening from 7:00-7:30 p.m.
Dec. 31 – 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Psalm 119 Special Day of Prayer
Jan. 31 – 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Psalm 119 Special Day of Prayer
March 31 – 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Psalm 119 Special Day of Prayer
We start and end on time to respect everyone’s schedule, but if you’d like to stick around afterwards for about 10 minutes of casual visiting, you’re encouraged to do so!

What?  We will use the Book of Psalms as our model for prayer using the “five psalms per day” method for covering all 150 psalms each month (e.g., Psalms 1-5 for January 1, Psalms 6-10 for January 2, etc.) Easy formula: just multiply the day of the month by 5, and that will tell you which psalm we end on that day – e.g. on Tuesday, August 4, we’ll cover Psalms 16-20 because 4 x 5 = 20.

Why?  John Calvin called the Book of Psalms “an anatomy of all parts of the soul,” saying that “there is not an emotion of which one can be conscious that is not here represented as a mirror.” Praying the psalms helps us to write God’s word upon our hearts and ensures that our prayers incorporate adoration, thanksgiving and confession in addition to our specific petitions.

How?  You’re free to attend as a listener only or to participate in the reading and praying. Mary Anna Turner emails the weekly Zoom links to the RPC women’s Google group each Monday, but if you do not receive these emails, please contact her at maryannaturner@gmail.com so that she can forward them to you. There is no need to sign up in advance or RSVP.
