Those of you who have been at Redeemer for many years have long known of the church’s vision for a new sanctuary, a vision consistently held by the elders since Redeemer’s very beginning. Yet you’ve not heard much about it over the last few years.
Those of you new to Redeemer may have heard something about a sanctuary in the future and wondered when this might become more of a topic of conversation.
Last year the Session voted to begin the process to assess the feasibility of building a new sanctuary through a two-pronged study designed to explore several questions: What is the need for a new sanctuary? What should Redeemer be willing to spend on its construction? What would a building cost? What resources are available, today and projected, for the construction?
This study remains underway, and the Session will review the results early this fall. Based on these results, the Session hopes to move forward on the project. If the decision to do this is made, we’ll enter a season of broader conversations among the congregation that could lead to a capital campaign this fall or next spring.
One of the steps in the process of building is securing approval from the City of Austin for the plan to further develop our site. This can be a lengthy process. In order to be prepared to move ahead with construction if everything falls into place, the church will file the drawings and documents to pursue site plan approval sometime this summer.
If you have questions about the process, please reach out to George Dupere or Barry McBee.
Please be in prayer for the Session and those working with the church on the feasibility study as they move through this process over the next few months. We desire only to do God’s will in this important decision in the life of Redeemer and seek to follow his lead and direction.
