As we near the end of our summer series in the book of Hebrews, we come to the preacher’s points of application to his ancient congregation. Several in chapter 10 will be of particular interest to us, since like those ancient Christians we are sometimes also tempted to turn away from the promises of the gospel. The preacher is very direct with both his warnings and his encouragement, and it’s that plain talk that we need to hear today as we strive to follow Jesus as his faithful disciples.
This summer, our sermon series will take us through the book of Hebrews. Although Hebrews is one of the most important New Testament books because of its teaching on the divinity of Jesus, the relationship between the old and new covenants, and it’s insight on early Christian worship, among other things, the book is shrouded in mystery: who wrote it, to whom was it written, what kind of book is it anyway?
