Genesis 4
O Brother, Where Art Thou? - The story of Cain and Abel has been told and retold in a thousand different ways through the years: as a story of sibling rivalry, as a story of nation-states at war, and as a story of callous disregard for the weakest among us. This week, as we continue on in our fall series in Genesis, I hope we can look at Genesis 4 with fresh understanding. Like lava being pushed up through fissures in the ground by a volcanic eruption, sin is racing through the human family, and everything it touches is destroyed. Worship is changed, brotherhood is changed, even society is changed by Adam and Eve’s cosmic treason. But then an unexpected voice cries out from the bloodstained, curse-bearing ground east of Eden, and the world (and you and me) are given hope in the midst of despair, a promise of life in a place of death, and joy in the place of sorrow. Genesis 4.
