You might think that after receiving a vision from God and hearing God reiterate the covenant promises first made to his grandfather Abraham, Jacob’s life would have evened out—that everything would have been smooth sailing for him. That was not the case. This Sunday, we turn to Genesis 29 and see how life with God is complicated by our own sin, by the sin of others against us, and by the dysfunction of the world around us.
