Mark 4:35-41

Seeing Jesus: Gospel of Mark

Have you ever yelled at God? Have you rebuked him for falling asleep on the job when the storms of life raged around you? This week, we turn to the very well-known story of Jesus and the disciples in the midst of a storm on the Sea of Galilee. Facing death, the disciples rebuke Jesus. But instead of rebuking them for their impertinence, Jesus rescues them from their danger and ensures they get safely across the lake. What lessons can we draw from this story? What hope can we find kindled in our own hearts as we remember that the Lord of Creation who "gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses” (Psalm 33:7), is also the God who sees us in our need and redeems our lives from death?

From Series: "Seeing Jesus: Gospel of Mark"

The Gospel of Mark is known for its quick pace. Jesus, as Mark tells it, does everything “immediately.” The picture of Jesus we get from Mark isn’t of a languid guru, but of a man on a mission. As we return to our spring sermon series in the Gospel of Mark, we’ll give special attention to the picture of Jesus Mark is conveying to his readers. For in Jesus, God’s king and God’s kingdom has come…and nothing can ever be the same again.
