Beyond John: Ethics and Community in Early Christianity
Andrew Waller – Room 207
John the Apostle wrote letters to first-century churches that made much of ethics, Christian community, and how the work of God in Christ shapes God’s people. But beyond John’s words in scripture, how did early Christian communities in later decades think about the Christian life? What did they believe about worship, faith, and obedience to God? We’ll be taking a look at the ethical and liturgical practices of early Christianity to learn more about life in the first three centuries of the Church’s existence.

Westminster Confession of Faith (Chapters 11-22)
Marcus Serven – Room 206
Have you ever wanted to know what you believe and why you believe it? Here is your golden opportunity! Over this fall semester Pastor Marcus Serven will teach through the Westminster Confession of Faith (Chapters 11-22). There will be plenty of handouts for you to study and reflect upon at home, plus numerous opportunities to ask your questions and get cogent answers from the Bible. It is important for you to know that our church sees the Westminster Confession of Faith as an accurate summary of the Bible’s teaching on a great number of theological topics. Moreover, all of our church officers—pastors, elders, and deacons—pledge to teach and uphold these doctrines as the core beliefs of the Christian faith. Therefore, it is vitally important for you to understand these beliefs and to know how best to defend them against the skeptics of this present age. Come and join us for a systematic review of one of the most important documents of the past four hundred years—the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Evening at Redeemer, 6:00-7:10 p.m.

Adult Study – meets outside by the playground (weather permitting)   Class Details and Reading Schedule
Human sexuality has always been a topic of interest in society. But perhaps more than before, sexuality has become a focal point of conflict in the world and church. For the past few years the PCA has debated the ordination qualifications of men who experience same sex attraction. While these debates are necessary, the PCA has also recognized that it needed resources to walk its members through on the topic of human sexuality. Thus, at our last General Assembly, a study report was provided, and almost unanimously approved, on the topic of sexuality.

Our elders and pastors will lead us through discussions of the PCA study report as well as Dr. Christopher Yuan’s book, Holy Sexuality: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God’s Grand Story. While Dr. Yuan’s background includes his own experience of same sex attraction, his book is written so that all members of the church can learn about God’s purpose for our sexuality. Whether married or single, young or old, these materials will help us derive biblical application for all of our lives.
